About Guitar Dad

Guitar Dad Publications is a family-owned and operated company dedicated to furthering an understanding of the guitar through accessible, content-driven teaching materials.  Our flagship book, Music Theory You Can use, generated over $12K in presales on word of mouth alone.  The book was released worldwide to the public in March 2018, in partnership with Mascot Books.

Guitar Dad was founded by legendary New Mexico session guitarist and educator Steve Maase and his daughter, New York-based session guitarist Lily Maase, who began working with Steve at just seven years of age.

After 50 years of service to the New Mexico music industry as a teacher, performer, and recording artist, Steve passed away peacefully in his home on October 1, 2016, on the eve of finishing the manuscript for Music Theory You Can Use.

Guitar Dad Publications is now under the sole direction of Ms. Maase, whose decades of apprenticeship with her father and 15 years of experience in the East Coast music industry have given her the background necessary to bring such a timeless and necessary contribution to the tradition of the guitar into the digital age.
